Petřín Lookout Tower

Famous Prague view point.

The construction of the tower of Petřín inspired by the Eiffel Tower began in 1891 and it was completed four months later. At that time it was a respectable achievement. The upper view point is located at a height of 55 m above the ground. However, it is 378 meters above sea level at altitude, which is a little bit more than the Eiffel Tower (361 meters above sea level). We can find it above the old center of Prague in the neighborhood designed for walks.

You can also reach the lookout tower by cable car from Újezd Street. The way up only takes 4 minutes. Transit tickets for public transport apply for the cable car ride, too.

Underground

There are 18 former mining tunnels below the observation tower, the longest of them measuring 365 meters. The tunnels originated in the Middle Ages during coal mining and ore mining and also served for water drainage. The most beautiful of them is the Železitá tunnel, with an exhibition of photographs of underground Prague.

Near the lookout tower, you will find:

  • Mirror Maze
  • Observatory
  • Church of St. Lawrence
  • Hunger wall
  • Strahov Garden Children's Playground
