Impressive lake under the highest mountain of Šumava.
Under Plechý, the highest peak of the Šumava, you can find the Plešné Lake with an area of 7.5 hectares, which used to supply the Schwarzenberg Navigation Canal. The lake was created by the glacier, which left behind a large stone wall and a lake wall with a height of 260 m. The water flows out of the lake through the Jezerní Stream into the Vltava.
A monument to the Šumava poet Albert Stifter looks out on the rock wall, and tourists can enjoy a beautiful view from there. You can walk there from Nová Pec or from the village of Jelení.
