Velikonoce ve světě

Easter is celebrated almost all over the world. However, each country has its own typical customs and traditions. We have chosen ten countries for our exhibition – Ethiopia, Italy, Croatia, Ukraine, Finland, Great Britain, Mexico, Guatemala, Norway and the Philippines. For example, in Guatemala, spectacular processions take place on Easter, walking through the streets, carrying statues of saints on prepared alfombras – colorful carpets made of colored sawdust, pine needles, fresh flowers, vegetables and fruits. These colorful carpets are destroyed by the passing procession, which represents that neither life nor death is permanent. In many countries, sweet bread is baked, something like our mazanec. At the exhibition, you will learn where the pinca or paska is called or where it is shaped like a dove. You will also find out in which country eggs are dyed and where they only have chocolate ones.

For children from kindergarten and first grades of elementary schools, we are once again offering a popular educational Easter program this year called "Easter in the World", from which children will learn a lot about Easter traditions in other countries. During the educational dates (24.–27. 3., 31. 3.–2. 4. and 7.–10. 4.), the gallery will be open to the public only from 1:00 p.m. On Easter Monday, 21.4., it will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
